WhatsUp Gold

WhatsUp Gold dashboards, automated network discovery and network mapping

Progress® WhatsUp® Gold is a unified network monitoring platform: it discovers everything on your network, maps how it connects, watches its health and performance, analyses the traffic crossing it, and tells you the moment something breaks — on-premises, in AWS and Azure, or both.

EDP Communications supplies, licenses and supports WhatsUp Gold in South Africa, alongside our Vutlan, Room Alert and GSM Commander ranges. Where those products tell you what the environment is doing — temperature, power, flood, generators — WhatsUp Gold tells you what the network and the servers are doing. Most of our customers end up running both, and WhatsUp Gold reads Vutlan and Room Alert hardware over SNMP, so environmental and IT alarms land on the same dashboard.

Start free — WhatsUp Gold Free Edition

WhatsUp Gold Free Edition monitors up to 10 devices at no cost and with no obligation. It is not a time-limited trial — it is the real product, capped at 10 devices. You can discover your whole network and choose which 10 devices to monitor, and when you outgrow it you upgrade in-app to a paid edition without reinstalling.

What is included

  • Device and server monitoring
  • Performance monitoring
  • Custom dashboards and reporting
  • Certificate monitoring
  • Automatic discovery
  • Availability monitoring
  • Wireless network monitoring
  • Topology mapping
  • Alerts and notifications

What it does

Automated discovery

Layer 2/3 discovery finds what is actually on the network — including the devices nobody documented — over ICMP, SNMP, WMI and SSH.

Network mapping

Interactive, customisable maps showing device dependencies, so you see what a failure will take down with it.

Performance monitoring

CPU, memory, disk, interface and latency trending for servers, switches, routers, firewalls and wireless controllers.

Alerting and escalation

Real-time alerts by email, SMS, Slack and log, with escalation chains and dependency-aware suppression to kill alert storms.

Traffic analysis

NetFlow, sFlow, jFlow, IPFIX and NetStream — see which conversations, applications and users are consuming the link.

Application monitoring

Monitor business-critical applications and their underlying components as a single profile, not as unrelated servers.

Configuration management

Back up, audit and restore device configurations, and get alerted the moment a config changes.

Log management

Collect, alert on and archive syslog and Windows event logs for troubleshooting and compliance.

Cloud and virtualisation

AWS and Azure resources alongside VMware and Hyper-V hosts, guests and clusters, in the same dashboards.

Wireless monitoring

Controllers, access points and clients, including per-AP load and rogue detection.

Certificate monitoring

New in 2026.0 — discover SSL certificates on any port, with dashboards for expired and expiring certificates.

Network detection & response

AI-driven anomaly detection, encrypted traffic analysis, threat hunting and full packet capture for evidence.

Add-ons and related options

Network Detection & Response Lite

Behavioural threat detection and anomaly monitoring bolted onto an infrastructure monitoring subscription, for security visibility without the full NDR platform.

Distributed Edition

Monitor many remote sites from one central NOC, with local collection at each site. Built for multisite networks — see the data sheet below.

Service agreements and extended support

Progress support tiers, plus extended support to keep an older release covered. Data sheets below.

Pricing: Progress publishes US-dollar list pricing on whatsupgold.com/pricing.
