Digital Active Power Sensor w/Temperature (15.2 m)

Each AVTECH Digital Active Power w/Temperature Sensor provides real-time power status of any AC powered electric device by simply strapping to an existing power cord. Power is considered 'active' above approximately 100 W, with accuracy within +/- 2.5 W. The sensor also provides real-time temperature values from -40 to 85 °C, accurate to within +/- 2 °C.

Before the Active Power Sensor, monitoring power status to an electric device usually meant cutting open a power cord to isolate conductors, attaching monitoring inside an electrical panel, or unplugging a running device to install a power monitor. This sensor avoids all of that.

Because high temperatures remain a leading cause of equipment failure, temperature monitoring is built in. Monitoring the temperature directly behind a server, where the exhaust fan is located, helps track whether the server might be close to failure. Gradually rising readings can flag power consumption or hardware problems early.

It can also monitor firewalls, switches or phone system equipment — or non-IT loads such as HVAC units, portable air conditioners, sump pumps and freezers. Anything with an AC power cord can be monitored.

Readings are provided every two seconds and fed back to the Room Alert monitor for data logging, alerting and automatic corrective action. This is an instant 'Plug & Play' sensor via one of the standard RJ-11 jacks on any compatible Room Alert monitor.
